My First Visit

The first step in periodontal treatment is a review of your medical and dental history. Although a buildup of bacterial irritants is a primary cause of gum disease, there are other factors that can also have an impact on your dental health including smoking, diabetes, pregnancy, stress and heredity. During your visit we will examine your mouth carefully to look for signs and causes of periodontal disease. The bone and tissue will be studied through x-rays. With the information from the examination we will discuss your condition with you and recommend the most effective treatment program. After appropriate evaluation and consultation you will receive an estimate of fees and treatment time.

Please assist us at the time of your initial visit to the office by providing the following information:

  • Your referral slip and x-rays from your referring dentist.
  • A list of medications you are currently taking. If you have dental insurance, please bring any forms or insurance cards with you to the appointment.
  • Please Note:

All patients under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at the consultation appointment. Please notify the office if you have a medical condition or concern prior to surgery (e.g. artificial heart valves or joints, heart murmurs requiring premedication, severe diabetes, or hypertension.) If your referring dentist has taken x-rays, you may request that they be forwarded to us.
